Official opening of the Ariane 6 launch zone
The new Ariane 6 launch pad was officially opened on Tuesday, 28 September, marking the end of a colossal 8-year construction project.
After 8 years of work, the construction of the Ariane 6 launch pad is now complete. It was officially opened on Tuesday, 28 September, in the presence of Marie-Anne Clair, Director of Europe’s spaceport, Philippe Baptiste, Chairman and CEO of CNES, Sébastien Lecornu, Minister for Overseas Territories, and Gabriel Serville, President of the Local Authorities in French Guiana. Their industrial counterparts, André-Hubert Roussel, CEO of ArianeGroup, and Stéphane Israël, CEO of Arianespace, were also present.
Highlights of the event






This colossal construction project involved more than 600 people from various trades, 75% of whom were local. Built on a 150-hectare site, this new launch pad is the ninth to be built by CNES and its industrial partners in French Guiana.
