Stargazing Event Ahead of the VV27 Mission Launch
On the evening of July 25, the public is invited to the Carapa viewing site for a free astronomy event hosted by the Guyane Astronomie association, just before the launch of Vega-C.
To mark the launch of the VV27 mission, the Europe spaceport is offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the night sky ahead of liftoff.
Hosted by the Guyane Astronomie association, this open-access astronomy evening will take place at the Carapa viewing site, at the foot of the spectator stands, where the public will be able to enjoy both a live rocket launch and a guided discovery of the cosmos.
The setup will include:
- Two optical telescopes pointed at star clusters and, conditions permitting, distant galaxies,
- One digital telescope displaying deep-sky images—such as nebulae—directly on a tablet using image stacking techniques,
- Live explanations and commentary from a team of five astronomy enthusiasts, ready to engage with the public’s questions and curiosity.
Mars will make a brief appearance around 9:00 p.m., before setting quickly. Throughout the evening, the telescopes will focus on celestial objects invisible to the naked eye, offering a moment of wonder and learning.
This special event is a great opportunity for all audiences—whether curious newcomers or seasoned sky-watchers—to experience the magic of the Universe, just before the Vega-C launch lights up the sky.
